It's a Good Day!

Why, you ask?

For a number of reasons...

- My husband got home yesterday from India where he has been for the past 10 days.

- We leave this afternoon for vacation in Maine.

- Tomorrow we have plans to meet Miss Emilia Faith from Our Daily Smiles, and Landon from My Little "Son-Shine" (if he is feeling better)!

- And this...

My cup of joy runneth over! Praise the Lord for such a great day!

We will see you when we get back from vacation (with, I am sure, loads of pics!).

Hike Up Your Skirt!

Anna was having a ball doing this the other day...

I think my favorite part is how she hikes up her dress so it doesn't get in her way =)

Yet another sign that we are getting closer to being vertical without support!

Happy Birthday, Grammy!

Charlie and Paige have a little message for you =)

Hope you have a great day!

She's a Bear!

Anna has been channeling her inner "Special Agent OSO" recently...

Step 1:  Put Your Hands on the Floor

Step 2: Get You Hiney High in the Air!

Step 3: Walk Like a Bear!

I can definitely see standing and walking in her future! =)

I Have Hidden Your Word in My Heart...

This week is VBS at our church. My kids love VBS!!

Our theme this year is the SonQuest Rainforest. We always look forward to VBS, if not only for the new CD of songs that we get to listen to over, and over, and over again.

This is the first year that Paige is old enough to go to VBS. She has been waiting for this day since she was old enough to say, "Me too!!", and she is having a grand ol' time. I feel a bit sorry for her group leader having to deal with Paige's spunkiness all day, but she also must be a lot of fun. Yesterday, they were doing a lesson where Pastor John dressed up as John the Baptist. Paige was quick to call him out and let everyone know that he was really Pastor John, and she knew because she recognized his voice =)

Charlie loves the songs and dances. I get the biggest kick out of watching him do them because he really gets into it.

When we got home, I managed to get Charlie and Paige to show me a couple of the songs they are learning. Like I said...Charlie really gets into it!

Oh,'d better believe I am breaking out this video for his girlfriend in the future =)

I also like how Paige makes up her own words if she is not quite sure of them...she was pretty close, though! Reminds me of this little gem from last year...

And, this year I am helping out (as much as I can...I still have Anna to care for) with refreshments. Yep - I get the cozy job under the tent. =)
Anna finding some was HOT!

Charlie enjoying his snack

Today, Pastor John took Anna for me while I was helping. I pretty much didn't see her all morning, but she looked like she was having a great time. She even got to ride down the water slide!

Paige also loved the water slide.

My kids love VBS, and so do I! I love it that they get a fun-filled week where they learn about Jesus and the Bible and get to strengthen their faith.

I am going to miss VBS tomorrow because I have to take Anna back to the ENT to check the fluid in her ears. Please pray that she is all clear and that the "tubes" is not even mentioned!

Happy Birthday, Aunt Heather!!

Happy Birthday, Aunt Heather!!

Hope you have a SUPER Day!

PS- I promise, they were way more animated during rehearsals...they must have "camera fright"
Oh, and Paige picked out her own was "crazy, mix-up day"!

Steps in the Right Direction

When we first found out that Anna has Down syndrome, my labor recovery nurse, who happened to have a 6-yr. old with Ds (I know -- didn't realize how lucky I was at the time), told us all about her daughter. She mentioned that her daughter didn't learn how to walk to until she was just about to turn 3. I think she must have heard my gasp, because she quickly added that she has known a number of children with Ds who started walking at about the same time as their typical peers. Regardless, 3-yrs. old was all I heard.

So, from the beginning, we knew that Anna would likely be delayed in learning to walk - no big deal. I was ready for that - or so I thought.

I have to admit that the whole walking thing frustrates me at times. I mean, of all the things that Anna could be having problems with, walking is really not that big of a deal. But, she is a beast to carry around, weighing in at 28 lbs. at her recent pre-op visit. (Seriously, she is 50% for height and weight for typical children - forget the Ds growth charts!) Fortunately, she eats well, sleeps well, and is overall very healthy. I certainly should be counting my blessings instead of whining. But sometimes it just feels good to have a pity party and then move on. (Break out the cheese -- here comes the Whine!)

I think part of my frustration stems from the fact that I frequently get asked if Anna is walking yet. I get tired of answering, "Nope. Not Yet. Can't even stand on her own, yet." I try to remain upbeat and positive about it, and I try to talk about all the new things she is doing. But even I wonder when is she going to start walking.

I know she will walk eventually. We just have to be patient, and persistent with her therapy. We have to continue trusting that God is in charge.

So, last week at therapy, you can imagine my joy when I saw Anna doing this! I think I have welled up in tears each time I watch it. Look at her little feet -- they are taking actual steps!

We still have a long way to go, but these are definitely steps in the right direction!

All Clear...For Now

Anna's eye surgery this morning was successful and non-eventful - Praise the Lord!

Now we are praying that her tear ducts remain OPEN - as in, NOT CLOGGED! We are praying for no more yucky yellow crusties every morning that keep Anna from opening her eyes fully until I clean them off with a warm washcloth. And, we are praying for no more watery tears all day that leave red streaks down her chubby little cheeks.

Here are couple pictures of Anna taking it all in stride the surgical center. She seems to be getting all too comfortable there.

Chillaxin' in the waiting room. It was very early.

Don't we look fabulous!

Waiting for the Doctor: She is enjoying this way too much!

Recovery: It took her a little longer to come around this time, but a few minutes of snuggling with mommy and she was back to waving at everyone in the recovery room.

Third Time's a Charm?

We are praying anyway...

Tomorrow (Thursday,) Anna is having her tear ducts probed yet again. This time they are doing a slightly more invasive procedure using a balloon catheter.

Speaking of balloons, here is Miss Fancy Pants having a blast with the balloon her therapist gave her today. Don't worry, there was strict parental supervision to make sure she didn't put it in her mouth.

So, anyway, please say a prayer for Anna that this is the last time we have to go through this. We are really tired of icky-sticky eyes every morning!

Lucky Us!

Yesterday we were blessed to get to meet the Donovan family (Our Unexpected Journey).

When Adrienne and I realized how close we lived to one another, I couldn't wait to invite them over! It started off as a wet, rainy day, and looked to spoil our plans of a backyard BBQ, but the weather turned around and it turned out to be a perfect day. And look at the cuteness that graced our back deck! =)

Here is Bennett showing off his award winning smile.

Adrienne and Bennett, and me and Anna. Now, my husband is going to complain that there isn't a picture of the dads. Sorry, babe! Next time you should insist on a photo =)

Anna enjoyed checking out Bennett...

Patting his head...

Making sure he smells okay... (actually, I think this was a misplaced kiss)

And finally, going in for the hug =)

The Bigs had fun as well. Check out the girls in their fancy dress-up clothes.

It was so much fun to meet a fellow-blogger. Yet another blessing that God has brought us through Anna!

Paige loves playing with Anna. At times it may look and sound like she is killing her, but they are both really having a great time - at least they keep coming back for more, anyway. =)

The Not-So Sleepy Girl

The other day, when Anna was supposed to be taking a nap, I heard a lot of noise coming out of her room. I went in to see what was going on. What I found was Anna having a jolly ol' time amusing herself. (Sorry for the shaky video - there was a fly buzzing around)

In case you were wondering...she was trying to shake out her pigtails and flop them across her face. This is her new fun thing to do when she has her hair in pigtails.
I guess she wore herself out because after she grabs her blanket at the end, she laid down and went to sleep. Silly girl =)
