Buddy Walk 2010: She Did It!!!

Saturday was our Buddy Walk for the Down Syndrome Group of Northwest New Jersey (DSGNWNJ - yes, it is a mouthful!)   What a glorious day!!!!!

After two years of pouring down rain, God blessed us with a picture perfect day. Sunshine and warmth was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone.

Signing "grass" while playing in the grass
The warm and sunny weather was not what made my heart soar, however.

This year, Anna's Banana Pants team had 50 people walking!!  How incredible is that?!  God has blessed us with such a great family and so many wonderful and caring and supportive friends.  I am overwhelmed just looking at the group picture of our team.

And, as a team we raised over $2,500!!  Seriously folks, this is amazing, and truly the work of God.  I merely sent out a few emails to family and friends and they willingly and generously opened their hearts and wallets and gave.

But, I think what had me floating the highest, was watching Miss Anna walking at her own Buddy Walk for the first time!  I cannot even begin to tell you how excited I was to see this.  I was choking back tears for a good part of it.  God does answer prayers because I have been praying so hard that Anna would be able to walk at her Buddy Walk this year...and watch her go!!

It may be a technicality that she is using a push toy...but that doesn't matter to us...She Did It!!!

Thank you so much for everyone who came out to walk with us, who donated to the Buddy Walk, who prayed for good weather and wished us well.  Words cannot express the gratitude we feel.

Here are a few (ha!) more pictures from the day.

Look at all these kids who came out to walk!!  Notice, Anna was not interested in the picture - she wanted to walk!

Launch Party!

There was quite a rukus coming from Anna's room after her nap today.  I opened the door to find that she was throwing a "launch party"

Maybe she plans to try out for centerfield when she gets older =)

Been Busy

I got an email today from a fellow blogger who was checking on us to make sure that everything was okay.  (Apparently my posts were missed)

I am happy to report that we are all doing well, and everyone is healthy.  We have just been busy.  But thank you for checking on us! It makes us feel loved =)

We have been busy around here with just plain ol' life.  School is in full gear.  After school activities and clubs are underway. We have soccer each Saturday. Various social engagements, and doctor and vet appointments fill any free hour. And, four regular therapies each week round out our schedule.

On top of that, my husband has been super busy at work and on the go! go! go!.  Last week, he left on Monday (Oct.11) for India, and wasn't supposed to return until this coming Wednesday (Oct. 20).  Fortunately (for us, anyway), plans changed and he was able to cut his trip short and come back last Friday. It was a very long trip for only 2 days of work!  Then it was back up to Boston early this morning.  My hubby works HARD for his money!  Love you, Sweetie!

Tomorrow I am going to a free seminar called, "Navigating the IEP" (IEP = Individualized Education Plan).  In less than 6 months Anna will age out of Early Intervention and move into the school system for the next 18 years of her life.  I cannot believe that I will be sending her to school in April.  She is too little for school!

And, on Saturday is our Buddy Walk!! The current forecast calls for SUN!!  It has poured the last two years, so the sun will be a very welcomed addition to the party this year!  Once again God has showered us with blessings. Anna's Banana Pants team has exceeded all expectations in fund raising and number of people walking.  It is sure to be a great day!

I am praying that Anna will cooperate and take a few steps at her Buddy Walk.  She can now walk all the way across our family room. (Granted, it is not that big of a room - but it takes her a good 10-11 steps to get there.)  She has been standing up in the middle of the floor with nothing to help her.  She doesn't move to walking from that position...yet.  And, she practically runs with her push toys.  I have been working with her walking while holding just one hand. She is a pro in the house, but refuses to do it outside.  She just plops her tiny hiney down and wants to take off crawling (little stinker!) --- But we are sooooo close!

And, that is about it.  Life -- it keeps us busy!

My Little Pumpkins

Yesterday we made our annual trek to the Pumpkin Patch.  The weather was bright, sunny and warm - very unPumpkin Patch like - but perfect in my book!

The kids had fun playing in the corn pit (instead of a sandbox).  It was a fight to get Anna out she was having so much fun =)

The hayride out to the pumpkin patch was exciting!

And, then we picked out our perfect pumpkins.

And, tried to pose with them in the blinding sunlight.

I think the highlight of the day, for Charlie and Paige anyway, was the pumpkin launching.  They love to play Angry Birds on Jonathan's iPhone, and therefore, thought this was awesome.

Ahhh, I love my little pumpkins! =)

October is Here!

October is one of those months that I love and hate all at the same time.

Why do I love it?

It is Fall. The air is crisp. We make multiple trips to the farm.  Caramel Apples are one of my favorite treats. Halloween is so much fun. And, it is only one month until my birthday! =)

But mostly, since Anna was born, October has come to mean so much more to me...October is National Down Syndrome Awareness Month

If you are wondering why it looks like she doesn't have any hair -- it is all in a very cute ponytail with a big bow that you cannot see  =)
This month is dedicated to educating the public about Down syndrome, and dispelling many misconceptions and incorrect assumptions about individuals with Down syndrome. It is also a chance for us to show our support for those that we know with Down syndrome, and to share our joy of being blessed by an individual with Down syndrome in our lives.

Many Buddy Walks take place in October. Ours is October 23. We are really looking forward to it!

Also, in honor of Down Syndrome Awareness Month, Parenting.com is, once again, collecting pictures of our little cuties and displaying them on their website. If you have a jewel with a little extra, click on this link to find out how to submit your picture.

So, what could I possibly hate about October?

It is Fall.  The air is crisp and turning colder.  The last two years it has snowed in October -- a grim reminder that Winter is closing in.  And, I have to workout extra hard to keep from adding serious poundage from all the Halloween candy I keep putting into my shopping cart.  =\

Whether we like it or not, though, October is Here!
